See below for more information including, frequently asked questions, what to expect, pre and post care, before and after photos and pricing.
What is Microblading? A technique performed by a highly trained brow artist applies fine, hair-like strokes drawn onto the skin by means of a sterile tool. This treatment gives the appearance of fuller, more defined eyebrows.
What is Powder Brow? A semi-permanent cosmetic technique that gives eyebrows a soft, powdery look. A highly trained artist uses a small needle and a device similar to a tattoo gun to deposit pigment into the skin in quick, pixelated motions. The result is a shaded effect that mimics the look of makeup.
What is Combo Brow? A cosmetic tattooing technique that combines microblading (creating hair-like strokes) with powder shading (a soft, filled-in effect) to achieve a natural-looking brow with added fullness, typically using hair strokes at the front of the brow transitioning to shading towards the tail.
How long does the session take? Depending on the patients comfort level, the first session can range from 120-150 mins (this includes time for photos and paperwork). The second session takes 20-30 minutes.
Powder Brow & Combo Brow’s may take 30 minutes longer each session, due to the added techniques used.
How far apart is each session? After the initial appointment of 120-150 minutes, the second stage of the treatment is required 30 days later. It takes a minimum of 24 days for the skin to completely heal so the longer the better.
How long does it last? Microblading is a semi-permanent treatment lasting 6-12 months depending on the type of skin and after care procedure. Dry and thin skins have a higher retention whereas thick and oily skins have less retention.
Powder and Combo Brows tend to last longer and are considered permanent make-up procedures. Lasting 2-3 years before needed a touch up. Touch-ups are still required for cosmetic permanent make-up as the color will fade overtime and require a color enhancement.
When should I get touch-ups? Touch-ups should be done when you start to see fading or missing strokes around 6-12 months for Microblading. Every 2 years for Powder and/or Combo Brows.
Touch-ups help your brow treatments last longer. DO NOT let all the pigment fade before coming in for a touch up. If you wait too long and let your brows completely fade or flake away, then a full retreat will be required.
Does Microblading, Powder and/or Combo Brows hurt? The discomfort from these brow techniques depend on a variety of things. Patient’s natural pain tolerance can be affected by menstrual cycles, medications, skin problems and overall skin conditions. For some people it may be very tolerable with little to no discomfort and others may feel moderate to severe discomfort. Therefore, we use great anesthetic which numbs patients to ease with the discomfort or eliminate it completely.
I am planning a vacation, can I still get my eyebrows treated? The best time to do Microblading, Powder or Combo Brows is 14 days before or after vacation. The reason being is that 14 days gives the outer layer of the skin time to heal to protect it from water and sun damage. After vacation skin may be sun burnt or overexposed to sunlight so it is better to allow natural complexion and texture to resurface.
I have previous work done on my brows. Can I still get Microblading, Powder or Combo Brows? Yes, in most cases previous cosmetic make-up can be covered with beautiful hair strokes, but there are times when previous PMU may be too dark. The skin may be badly scarred or the previous shape doesn’t fit into our natural desired shape and in these cases it is safer not working on those brows. A consult with a brow expert is recommended to see if you are a candidate or not.
Should I wax before the procedure? No, it is not suggested to wax at least one week prior to procedure and at least 2 weeks post procedure. Your Microblading artist will tweeze the extra hair as needed.
How much does it cost? Microblading is $650 which includes the first treatment and second treatment 30 days later. Microblading Touch-ups 6-12 months later cost $325.
Powder & Combo Brows are $750 as it takes a bit longer in both sessions and requires the use of more needles and pigment supplies. Powder & Combo Brow Touch-ups are $375.
Touch-ups are only done over our previous work. If you have previous work a full retreat from our artist is needed to ideal end results.
Is a consult required before treatment? Yes, the consult is designed to cover many bases before starting the procedure. Such as determining if you are a good candidate, review medical contraindications, take before photos, discuss and choose color, review shapes and best technique for your brows and concerns, as well as, reviewing any other questions or concerns.
5-7 days prior to Microblading discontinue:
- Alcohol
- Aspirin or ibuprofen, fish oil
- Retin-a, Triluma, Renova, or any other prescription topicals
24 hours prior to treatment:
- Do not drink caffeine
- Come in without make up on brow area and forehead area
*If you treat with Botox/Dysport, make sure to have treatment and then wait 2 weeks after injections to undergo Microblading procedure.
*Make sure to have a cleanser that is free of dye and fragrance. For example: baby shampoo, CerVe gentle cleanser or Cetaphil.
After Treatment:
1 hour after the treatment, use a damp cotton round and one droplet of neutral, baby soap, Cetaphil or Vanicream Gentle cleanser. Gently pat the eyebrows, repeat with another damp cotton round without cleanser. (Don’t worry this does not remove the pigment.) After gently patting the brows clean, apply a very thin layer of protective ointment provided using a clean cotton swab. No double dipping. (If it appears shiny, you have applied too much.) Repeat these steps every 2-3 hours before bed, today only. This avoids buildup of blood/lymph on the area. Always make sure your hands are clean before touching your brows.
Day 2-7:
Follow the same cleansing and protective ointment technique morning and night only. After 7 days you STOP applying the post care ointment. Maintain facial hygiene by cleansing the skin using above mentioned soap and wash cloth to avoid the brows, apply the protective ointment after. Do not use aggressive movement-be very gentle.
Avoid 7 days Post Treatment:
Sweat, Sun and Air-bourne Debris.
All creams (except for protective one). All make up (foundation, brow pencil, powder etc.) in the eyebrow area. Mascara and eye liner are okay.
All workouts that cause sweating, as well as, saunas, steaming, hot bath, or Jacuzzi.
Avoid swimming pools and the ocean which both contain bacteria. Avoid air-bourne debris, such as, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning the litter box, pet dander etc.
Avoid picking, peeling or scratching of the Micro Pigmented area in order to avoid scarring and/or removal of the pigment.
Avoid 14 days Post Treatment:
All facial treatments, chemical peels, laser etc. Light facials are okay to do 2 weeks after or before Microblading. Ask your provider for more information.
Avoid over the next 30 days:
Sun tanning, UV/UVA rays, Solarium and light therapies. No deep chemical peels or laser treatments. All creams that contain regeneration factors, Retin-a/retinols, Triluma, Tazorac, AHA/BHA’s, vitamin c, benzoyl peroxide, etc. on the eyebrow/forehead area (can use cheeks down).
Always avoid:
Chemical peels over treated area as peels have been known to cause a shift in color and premature fading. Lasers can destroy the pigment and causes burns (fraxel, IPL, etc.)
Does a contraindication mean that treatment cannot take place?
Not always. There are Absolute Contraindications, meaning you are not a candidate to treat at all. And there are Relative Contraindications, meaning you may require physician consent or you may be less likely to retain the pigment as long due to medications and require touch-ups more often.
Absolute Contraindications:
- Bleeding Disorders- CAN NOT TREAT. (Hemophilia A & B)
- Prescription blood thinners which cannot be discontinued due to extreme health risks.
- Vitiligo- Cannot Treat. Skin pigment will cause Microblading pigment to appear much darker.
Relative Contraindications:
- Prescription Blood thinners- Some blood thinners are prescribed to patients as precautionary but do not cause harm to your health if discontinued for a few days. In these cases, you may be a candidate for treatment. You MUST check with your physician for consent to stop medication 3-4 days prior to treatment. Written consent must be shown prior to scheduling procedure.
- Diabetes –Need Physician Consent before treating due to slow healing, prone to infection. Healing time may double for those suffering with diabetes and color retention cannot be guaranteed.
- Malignant diseases- cancer, leukemia and sarcomas. Can treat if in remission ONLY with Physician consent, prone to infection.
- High Blood Pressure- Can treat but High Blood Pressure medication causes pigment to reduce quicker. You may need to come in for touch-ups more often than those without High Blood Pressure.
- Hormone Therapy Replacement- Can treat but medication causes pigment to reduce quicker. This applies to oral medication, not patches or topical prescription creams.
- Psoriasis, Eczema- Can treat, as long as there is no sign of, or history of psoriasis, eczema in the eyebrow area.
Disclaimer: You are never advised to discontinue any medications from providers at Ocean Brows & Aesthetics. Physician consent is ALWAYS needed when adjusting any of your medical needs.
