What is Microneedling? Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure in which a medical aesthetician performs percutaneous collagen induction (PCI) through micro-punctures of the epidermis and dermis. This promotes a collagen-stimulating healing process. This collagen induction improves the skin by reducing the appearance of facial wrinkles and facial acne scars.
How long does the session take? 1 hour treatment, includes 30 minute numbing time. If you add the neck, the total treatment time is about 75 minutes.
How many sessions are needed? This depends on a variety of factors pertaining to skin type, skin condition and what results we are attempting to achieve for each individual. Starting at 4 sessions up to 12. We offer a package of 4 treatments and recommend a consultation to further determine how many sessions you may need.
How far apart is each session? 2-4 weeks apart. It is not suggested to space your treatments more than 4 weeks apart as the optimal results may lessen.
What is the downtime? There is little to no downtime. You will experience redness and pinpoint bleeding immediately post treatment and that remains for up to 24 hours, or 3 days for sensitive skin types. Some patients experience heat, which feels like a sunburn for 1-3 days while others may not experience this. If so, it is easily cooled and calmed with the post-care moisturizer.
Does Microneedling hurt? We use a great anesthetic which numbs patients to ease the discomfort or eliminate it completely. Most patients do not feel anything but a slight vibration from the device.
Of course, it is important to keep in mind a patient’s natural pain tolerance can be affected by menstrual cycles, medications, skin problems and overall skin conditions.
Can I apply make-up after Microneedling? Yes, after 24 hours you may apply make-up. After 3 days you can return to your normal skincare routine, as advised by your medical aesthetician.
What do I need to avoid before the procedure? Any waxing, facial services or fillers should be done 7-14 days prior to Microneedling. Botox can be done 2 weeks prior.
How much does Microneedling cost? $375 per facial treatment. Series of 4 are $1200 (value $1500 savings $300) The neck is additional.
Is a consult required before treatment? Yes, the consult is designed to cover many bases before starting the procedure. Such as determining if you are a good candidate, review medical contraindications, take before photos, discuss pre/post care and any other questions or concerns.
• For the 72 hours post treatment, cleanse the treatment area with Provider’s choice of gentle cleanser and pat dry, do not rub.
• Avoid wash cloths, harsh irritants, and scrubs.
• Reapply SHEALD as needed throughout the day. The treated area should be kept as hydrated as possible for 3 days post treatment.
• Avoid excessive sun exposure to the treatment area and gently pat in a physical sunblock of at least SPF 30 or higher at all times for at least one month following the procedure.
• Do not pick at the treated area. It is imperative to let the area heal on its own. If the area is picked at and further interruption of the epidermal layer occurs, this can increase the risk of infection, PIH, and other post procedure complications.
• Patients should be advised to contact their Provider if they have any concerns about how their skin is responding to the treatment or is healing
